Extended hull protection against fender chafing
The seaEQ Fender Protection Mat FPM XL helps protect your boat's hull against friction and chafing caused by conventional boat fenders. Measuring approximately 2000 × 700 mm, it provides 40% more protective surface area than the standard FPM, while maintaining the same length.
Its additional height makes it particularly suitable for boats with higher freeboards, larger fender contact areas and mooring situations where fender positions change due to wind, waves and boat movement.
The FPM XL is positioned between an existing boat fender and the hull. Its smooth polyester surface allows the fender to move along the protective mat, while the PU-coated hull-facing surface provides a protective layer against the boat's side.
The fender provides the cushioning. The FPM XL protects the hull from the fender.
40% more protection area at the same length
With a height of approximately 700 mm, the FPM XL provides significantly greater vertical coverage than the standard FPM, which measures 500 mm in height.
This makes it particularly useful for larger boats, higher freeboards and fender contact areas that may shift during mooring.
The additional protective surface helps reduce direct contact between the fender and the hull, even when the fender's position changes.
Protection against friction and chafing
Wind, waves and boat movement cause hanging fenders to move repeatedly against the hull while moored. Over extended periods, this relative movement can result in chafe marks, dull patches on the hull surface or unwanted rubbing noises.
The seaEQ FPM XL creates a separate protective surface between the boat fender and the hull.
The smooth polyester fabric on the fender-facing side allows the fender to slide along the mat. The PU-coated hull-facing surface forms the protective layer against the boat's side.
As a result, relative movement takes place predominantly between the fender and the FPM XL rather than directly between the fender and the hull.
The FPM XL is particularly useful during extended stays alongside pontoons, quay walls or other boats.
Functional multi-layer construction
The seaEQ FPM XL features a multi-layer construction in which the fender-facing and hull-facing surfaces perform different functions.
- Fender-facing side: smooth polyester fabric providing a sliding contact surface for the boat fender.
- Hull-facing side: PU-coated surface forming the protective layer against the hull.
- Core: approximately 4 mm cellular rubber for a flexible, adaptable construction.
- Edge binding: durable polypropylene (PP) webbing.
The entire construction is metal-free, and the attachment tabs are securely sewn into the mat.
Despite its large protective surface, the FPM XL remains flexible. It can be rolled up and stored compactly on board when not in use.
Flexible attachment to the boat
The FPM XL is positioned on the boat using its permanently sewn attachment tabs.
seaEQ FR fender lines can be used for attachment.
Alternatively, the seaEQ FRC-FR Fender Railing Clip with Fender Line provides a metal-free attachment solution for suitable railing systems.
FR and FRC-FR attachment accessories are available separately and are not included with the FPM XL.
Dimensions and technical specifications
- Length: approx. 2000 mm
- Height: approx. 700 mm
- Thickness: approx. 4 mm
- Weight: approx. 1.5 kg
- Protection area: approx. 1.4 m²
- Colours: White, Deep Blue and Black
- Construction: flexible, rollable and metal-free
At the same length, the FPM XL offers approximately 40% more protective surface area than the standard seaEQ FPM measuring 2000 × 500 mm.
Easy cleaning and compact storage
Salt, dirt and typical harbour contamination can be rinsed off with water. For more stubborn dirt, the surface can be cleaned using a soft brush.
Thanks to its flexible construction, the FPM XL can be rolled up and stored compactly on board when not in use.
Additional hull protection – not a standalone boat fender
The seaEQ Fender Protection Mat FPM XL is not a standalone boat fender and does not replace the cushioning function of an existing fender.
It is designed to be used together with cylindrical, spherical or other suitable boat fenders.
The existing fender continues to provide cushioning between the boat and a pontoon, quay wall or another vessel. The FPM XL provides an additional protective layer between the fender and the hull.
For boats and fender contact areas where a height of approximately 500 mm is sufficient, the more compact seaEQ FPM Standard is available.
Manufactured by seaEQ Germany
The seaEQ Fender Protection Mat FPM XL is manufactured at the seaEQ production facility in Germany using materials sourced from Europe.
Frequently Asked Questions about the seaEQ Fender Protection Mat FPM XL
What is the difference between the seaEQ FPM and FPM XL?
Both models share the same basic material construction and provide the same hull protection function.
The standard FPM measures approximately 2000 × 500 × 4 mm, while the FPM XL measures approximately 2000 × 700 × 4 mm.
At the same length, the FPM XL therefore provides approximately 40% more protective surface area. It is particularly suitable for higher freeboards, larger fender contact areas and changing fender positions.
Why use a fender protection mat in addition to a boat fender?
Wind, waves and boat movement cause fenders to move against the hull while moored. This repeated movement can result in chafing and wear marks.
The FPM XL creates a separate protective surface between the fender and the hull. Its smooth fender-facing surface allows relative movement along the mat, helping to reduce direct chafing against the hull.
Is the FPM XL a standalone boat fender?
No. The FPM XL is a protective mat for the boat's hull, not a standalone boat fender.
Its purpose is to reduce direct contact and chafing caused by the movement of an existing fender against the hull.
The boat fender itself continues to provide the necessary cushioning.
Which boat fenders can be used with the FPM XL?
The seaEQ FPM XL can be combined with many conventional boat fenders, including cylindrical and spherical fenders.
The important requirement is that the FPM XL is positioned between the fender and the hull and adequately covers the relevant contact area.
The existing fender continues to provide the cushioning.
How is the FPM XL attached to the boat?
The FPM XL features securely sewn attachment tabs.
seaEQ FR fender lines or the seaEQ FRC-FR Fender Railing Clip with Fender Line can be used for attachment.
Both attachment solutions are available separately as optional accessories and are not included with the FPM XL.
Can the FPM XL be rolled up for storage?
Yes. Despite its large protective surface, the FPM XL is only approximately 4 mm thick.
Its flexible construction allows it to be rolled up and stored compactly on board.
How do I clean the FPM XL?
Salt, dirt and typical harbour contamination can be rinsed off with water.
For more stubborn dirt, the surface can also be cleaned using a soft brush.
