seaEQ RR 1400 – Reef Tie with Tapered End and Twisted Sewn Loop

The seaEQ RR 1400 Reef Tie is a 140 cm long and approximately 25 mm wide sail tie made from flexible polypropylene webbing. It has been developed specifically for securing sail reefs and features two distinctive design details: a tapered webbing end and a large, twisted sewn loop.

The tapered end makes it easier to thread the webbing through narrow reefing eyelets and cringles. The special loop construction then makes it easier to pass the free end of the webbing through the loop.

This makes the RR 1400 particularly suitable for handling during reefing. It can also be used as a conventional sail tie and for bundling ropes, lines and suitable equipment on board.

Pack contents: 4 seaEQ RR 1400 Reef Ties in orange.

Reef Tie for Reefing Eyelets and Cringles

When securing a reef, the reef tie is passed through the designated reefing eyelets or cringles in the sail.

For this reason, the free end of the seaEQ RR 1400 features a tapered design. This makes it easier to thread through narrow openings, even though the main webbing is approximately 25 mm wide.

This design detail distinguishes the seaEQ RR Reef Ties from the seaEQ SR Sail Ties. While both product ranges feature a twisted sewn loop, the RR series has been specifically developed for reefing applications with its additional tapered end.

Large, Twisted Sewn Loop

The seaEQ RR 1400 features the characteristic large, twisted sewn loop found on seaEQ sail ties.

Because of the twist, the two layers of webbing within the loop do not lie completely flat against each other. This helps the loop remain more open, making it easier to pass the free end of the webbing through.

The combination of the tapered end and twisted loop makes two consecutive handling steps easier:

  • Threading through the sail: The tapered end helps guide the webbing through narrow reefing eyelets and cringles.
  • Passing through the loop: The twisted sewn loop remains more open, making it easier to pass the free end of the webbing through afterwards.

The loop is secured with heavy-duty polyester thread using a box-and-cross stitch pattern.

Also Suitable as a Sail Tie and for Bundling Equipment

In addition to its primary function as a reef tie, the seaEQ RR 1400 can also be used as a sail tie.

The flexible, approximately 25 mm wide webbing is suitable for tying and securing sailcloth. Its width distributes contact over a larger surface area than a thin rope.

Ropes, lines and other suitable equipment on board can also be bundled or held together using the RR 1400.

The reef tie is reusable and designed for repeated use on board.

Flexible Polypropylene Webbing for Marine Applications

The seaEQ RR 1400 is made from flexible polypropylene (PP) webbing with a width of approximately 25 mm.

Polypropylene absorbs very little water, making it well suited to marine applications.

The flexible textile construction provides a broad contact surface against the sailcloth. As with any reef tie or sail tie, the specific sail construction and correct method of use must always be taken into account.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About the seaEQ RR 1400 Reef Tie

What is the seaEQ RR 1400 used for?

The seaEQ RR 1400 has been developed primarily for securing sail reefs. Its tapered end makes it easier to thread through narrow reefing eyelets and cringles. It can also be used as a sail tie and for bundling ropes, lines and suitable equipment.

What is the difference between RR Reef Ties and SR Sail Ties?

In addition to the twisted sewn loop, the RR series features a tapered free end. This makes it easier to thread the webbing through narrow reefing eyelets and cringles and is specifically designed for reefing applications.

What is the advantage of the tapered end?

The free end of the seaEQ RR is narrower than the main webbing. This makes it easier to thread through narrow reefing eyelets and cringles, even though the main reef tie is approximately 25 mm wide.

What is the advantage of the twisted sewn loop?

The twist prevents the two layers of webbing within the loop from lying completely flat against each other. This helps the loop remain more open and makes it easier to pass the free end of the webbing through.

What material is the RR 1400 made from?

The seaEQ RR 1400 is made from flexible polypropylene webbing approximately 25 mm wide. The loop is secured with heavy-duty polyester thread using a box-and-cross stitch pattern.

How long and wide is the RR 1400?

The seaEQ RR 1400 is approximately 1400 mm long and 25 mm wide.

Can the RR 1400 also be used as a sail tie?

Yes. In addition to its use as a reef tie, the RR 1400 can also be used to bundle and secure sailcloth.

Is the RR 1400 suitable for delicate sails?

The flexible, 25 mm wide webbing provides a broad contact surface against the sailcloth. Suitability also depends on the specific sail construction and correct application.

How many reef ties are included in the pack?

The pack contains four seaEQ RR 1400 reef ties and sail ties in orange.

Can the RR reef ties be reused?

Yes. seaEQ RR reef ties are designed for repeated use when reefing, tying, bundling and securing.
